Throughout UIs evolution, the goal has remained to create interfaces that are increasingly user-friendly, efficient, personalised, and accessible. We can already envision how this could affect the finance industry, where the most advanced users of technology can quickly operate software with just their keyboards. Bloomberg Terminal is a prime example, known for its data-packed interface and keyboard navigation. If AI solutions continue to develop at the current pace, we may someday be using our minds to control software rather than a combination of our minds and hands.

While we won't be connecting our minds directly to the tools we use just yet, we can already see how modern UIs are helping professionals to reach new heights in their work efficiency. By providing intuitive, efficient, and personalised user experience, modern UIs are simplifying workflows from collaboration to analysis. Here are some key areas of the impact of advanced UIs for professionals:

• Use of natural language: Natural language processing enables more intuitive, human-like interactions between users and digital tools. Context-aware solutions can interpret commands like “Create a project with a similar setup as project Alpha” and execute them without requiring interaction with a graphical interface.

• Multimodal Interfaces: With multimodal interfaces, users can combine voice, text, gestures, and even facial expressions to interact with systems. For instance, you might speak a command while pointing at something on a screen, and the system will interpret both the verbal and visual inputs.

• Intuitive and adaptive navigation: Traditional enterprise systems often require users to learn how to navigate complex interfaces. Modern UIs, however, allow for more natural and familiar interactions, adapting over time to user behaviour. These systems can adjust their complexity, making technology more accessible to new users while supporting more advanced users as they become more sophisticated.
